The thing is, I am starting to believe that the only way the “government” will have respect for the governed is when it no longer thinks that it is un-expendable.
In my crazy country, some lawyer with a sense of humor actually made such a proposal:
Philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle (and their spawns) have been philosophizing for centuries about the role of the government in our life.
I am not a political science grad. I took, maybe, 6 units of Social Science subjects before I finally focused my attention wholly on the consistency and vicissitudes of the human body. So the answer to the question: “What the heck do we have a government for?” is still lost to me.
As I am currently dependent on this entity called “the government” for a portion of my income, I will end my post while it still doesn’t sound too “inciting-to-sedition”; and offer a quote from my favorite poet.
Men have always detested women’s gossip because they suspect the truth: their measurements are being taken and compared. — Erica Jong
