Yet Again, Another Poem for G (15 April 2012)

i have never thought to know love

the way I have known it with you

sweet and tart, bitter but gay

saltwater in my mouth

and rain puddles on my toes

it is not with regret but with acceptance

that I embrace you

my friend with salt-pepper hair

for you knew me when I was young

(and insufferable)

yet loved me anyway.
